Discover What You Can Make with What You Have

One of the best things about an air fryer is its versatility. If you have chicken, potatoes, fish, vegetables, cheese, mushrooms, bread, eggs, onions or corn in your fridge or cupboard, you are already equipped to make dozens of different meals. For a full guide with meal ideas, read what can you cook in an air fryer.

Most Popular Air Fryer Ingredients

πŸ— Chicken

Chicken is the most popular air fryer ingredient by far. Tenders, wings, schnitzel, thighs: the air fryer produces consistently golden, crispy chicken in a fraction of the oven time. Boneless pieces work best; bone-in pieces need slightly longer.

πŸ₯” Potatoes

From classic chips to wedges, hasselback potatoes and home fries, potatoes are the air fryer’s best friend. Cut into chips, toss lightly in oil and season well. For extra crispy chips, soak in cold water for 30 minutes and dry completely before cooking.

🐟 Fish

Fish fillets cook beautifully in an air fryer, done in 8–14 minutes. Works especially well for white fish like cod and for salmon. Coat in seasoned flour or breadcrumbs for a crispy finish.

πŸ₯¦ Broccoli & Vegetables

Air fryer vegetables develop a caramelised, slightly charred character that steaming or boiling can’t replicate. Toss in about 1 tablespoon of oil per 500g with garlic powder and sea salt, and cook at 180–200Β°C for 8–18 minutes depending on the vegetable.

Pro tip: Cheese, especially halloumi, is one of the best surprises in an air fryer. Halloumi fries at 200Β°C for 8–10 minutes turn golden and slightly crispy on the outside with a soft, squeaky inside.

What You Shouldn’t Air Fry

Wet batter, soups and stews, raw rice and pasta, loose leafy greens and cheese on its own don’t work well. Open the β€œDon’t air fry” tab in the tool for the full list and what to do instead.

QWhat are the best things to cook in an air fryer?
The best air fryer foods are those that benefit from dry, crispy heat: chips, chicken wings and thighs, fish fillets, sausages, vegetables, nuggets, onion rings, spring rolls and bacon. Foods that need moisture or a wet environment, such as soups, casseroles and steamed food, are less suited.
QCan you cook eggs in an air fryer?
Yes. Eggs in their shells cook at 150Β°C with no water: about 9 minutes for soft and 13–14 minutes for hard-boiled. See our air fryer boiled eggs times chart. You can also cook fried or scrambled eggs in a small oven-safe dish.
QCan you cook frozen food in an air fryer?
Yes. Frozen chips, nuggets, fish fingers, hash browns and Yorkshire puddings all cook straight from frozen with no oil. Many fresh foods, like chicken breast and salmon, also have frozen settings in the tool. Never cook a whole chicken or joint from frozen.
