Quick answer: Four major air fryer recalls have been issued in Canada since 2022. They cover Cosori (252,828 units, February 2023), Insignia from Best Buy (two recalls: about 138,570 units in April 2022 and 99,903 units in March 2024) and Secura (680 units, May 2026). Check the model number on the label under your air fryer against the tables below. If it matches, stop using it, unplug it and follow the remedy: a free replacement, a refund or a gift card.

Recalled air fryers are dangerous because the most common fault is overheating. Wire connections or the unit itself can get hot enough to melt parts, start a fire or cause burns. A recall doesn’t mean every unit will fail, but Health Canada asks owners to stop using affected models straight away. It’s also illegal to sell or give away a recalled product in Canada, so check before you buy second-hand.

How to Check if Your Air Fryer Is Recalled

  1. Unplug it and let it cool.
  2. Find the rating label. It’s usually on the underside or the back. Note the brand, the model number (for example CP158-AF or NS-AF50DBK2-C) and any date code.
  3. Compare it with the tables below. The model number must match exactly; suffixes such as “-C” or “-RXB” matter.
  4. Search Health Canada’s database at recalls-rappels.canada.ca for your brand and “air fryer” to catch anything newer.
  5. If it matches, stop using it now and follow the brand’s remedy below. Most require a photo of the model label and of the power cord cut off, so the unit can’t be used again.
In the UK? Search the government’s Product Safety Alerts, Reports and Recalls page. In the US? Use CPSC Recalls. Recalls often run in several countries at once, but model numbers can differ by country.

Warning Signs Your Air Fryer Is Unsafe (Recalled or Not)

  • A burning plastic or electrical smell that isn’t food or grease.
  • Black smoke, rather than white grease smoke. Our guide to air fryer smoke explains the difference.
  • Melting, warping or discoloured handles, drawers or casing.
  • A plug or cord that gets hot, or a scorch mark on the socket.
  • It cuts out, sparks, or won’t heat even with the basket fully closed. Run through our air fryer won’t turn on or heat up checks first.
  • Cracked oven-door glass on air fryer ovens.

If you notice any of these, unplug it and stop using it. Report it to Health Canada with the consumer product incident report form, even if the model isn’t recalled; reports are how recalls start.

How to Use Any Air Fryer More Safely

  1. Plug it straight into a wall socket, not an extension lead or power bar. Air fryers draw 1,400–1,800 W.
  2. Leave 10–15 cm of space behind and above it so the exhaust vent can breathe, and keep it off the stovetop.
  3. Keep paper and loose liners out of the basket during preheating. See can you put paper towel in an air fryer? and our foil safety rules.
  4. Empty the grease drawer between batches and clean it regularly. Our cleaning scheduler sets a routine for your size and usage.
  5. Register your product with the manufacturer when you buy it, so you’re contacted directly if it’s recalled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which air fryers have been recalled in Canada?

The major recalls are Cosori (22 models, February 2023), Insignia from Best Buy (six models in April 2022 and five more in March 2024) and Secura model SAF-53 with date codes 1903 and 1904 (May 2026). Search Health Canada’s recalls database for anything newer.

How do I know if my Cosori air fryer is recalled?

Check the model number on the label underneath. The Canadian recall covers 22 models, including CP158-AF, CS158-AF, CO137-AF and CP258-AF, sold from March 2019 to December 2022. Recalled owners get a free replacement through recall.cosori.com, with no receipt needed.

Is my Insignia air fryer recalled?

Only if its model number is on one of the two recall lists: six models from April 2022 (sold November 2018 to April 2022) and five from March 2024 (sold September 2021 to November 2023). Both are handled by Best Buy Canada at recallrtr.com/airfryer.

Can I still use a recalled air fryer if it seems fine?

No. Health Canada advises stopping use immediately. The faults involve overheating that may not show until it happens. The remedy is free, so there’s no reason to keep using it.

Can I sell or give away a recalled air fryer in Canada?

No. It is illegal in Canada to sell, redistribute or give away a recalled consumer product, including second-hand.

Are Ninja air fryers recalled in Canada?

We didn’t find a recall of a standalone Ninja air fryer when we checked on 12 October 2026. In March 2024, Ninja did recall Foodi OP300-series multi-cookers (pressure cookers that also have an air-crisp lid) over a burn hazard from the pressure-cooking lid. Always search your exact model number, as this can change.
